Uniting with several local organizations, Women for Conservation participated in the Fauquier Climate Change Rally that was held at Rady Park in Warrenton, Virginia, on September 20, 2019. The event raised awareness about the negative impact of climate change while advocating solutions to reduce global greenhouse emissions.

“We believe in the need to act and to involve women across the world, from reducing deforestation to facilitating access to family planning,” said Sara Lara, Founder and Executive Director of Women for Conservation. “We must have a conscious mind that humans are the cause of climate change, but that united we can also be the solution. Working together, we can make a real difference.”

Though women are often ignored and neglected in conservation spaces, particularly in rural communities in developing nations, Women for Conservation works to empower and educate women about the importance of protecting the environment and tropical forests while supporting them to implement conservation projects, receive access to family planning, and attend training for sustainable livelihoods.

At the climate change rally, Women for Conservation joined alongside other environmental organizations, including the Fauquier County Climate Change Group, the Citizen’s Climate Lobby, the Green Team at St. James’s Episcopal Church, and Communities of Peace.
